What makes sea glass beautiful is that they are shaped by their rough journey in the ocean. And we think that pretty much is the same for mothers! Mother's Day is a celebration we really are excited about. We look forward to seeing mothers get the love and appreciation they deserve.

We've put together onhand Island Jewels pieces that we think moms will love. We've organized them by birthstone colors because we've noticed how our ladies like to choose colors based on their birth month.

1. Red

Red is the color of the birthstones of those born in January and July. For those born in January, their birthstone is Garnet and for July, it's Ruby.

Our first pick is an ultra rare sea glass necklace in 18K gold. The rope chain is 18 inches and suits the character of sea glass.

2. Purple

Amethyst, which is the birthstone of those born in February, is purple.

Purple sea glass earrings are very special (although all sea glass really are). They are not as rare as turquoise or red, but finding a pair to go together is not easy.

This set comes in fine silver, which does not tarnish.

3. Shades of blue

The birthstone of those born in March is aquamarine, which is a combination of 2 words aqua, meaning water, and marina, meaning the sea. For September birthday celebrants, their birthstone sapphire is a deep blue.

Our stud earrings are our best-sellers, simply because they are easy to wear. They practically go with anything.

Teal can be just a darker shade of aquamarine and is one of our favorites. For more details, just click on the photo.

We have a pair of beautiful cobalt blue pair of earrings that will be completed this week. We will update this blog post and include that in our list of Editor's Picks.

4. Shades of green

Green is the color of Emerald & Peridot. Emerald, which is the birthstone of those born in May, is a deeper green; while Peridot, the birthstone of August babies can range from yellow green to olive.

This pair of teal stud earrings in 18K gold has more green than blue in it.

Here's an olive green sea glass set for the more fashionista moms.

Lime is another beautiful shade, especially when in gold.

5. Yellow

Last in our list is the color of Topaz, the birthstone most associated with the month of November.

I remember the time when my kids and I were searching for sea glass and I got a message from a friend asking me what I was up to, and I said, "we're beachcombing." And he said, "what's that?" Beachcombing simply means searching and collecting things of value or interest on the beach. It's fun, relaxing, and addictive.

One day my kids and I went to 5 beaches and came back home empty-handed. At two of them you could see a number of ships pass by (I read that a lot of sea glass and sea marbles are carried by ships), but they were too many rocks and not a lot of sand, so the shards of glass lying around never got that beautiful frost. The other beaches seemed they have been cleaned for the public.

During the times when we did get lucky, most of our finds were big pieces. For our jewelry, we don't alter sea glass, so we only use the small ones, and they have to be completely frosted (which means they would have been at the beach for decades). Out of 20 for example, we may find 1 that's jewelry-grade. Most of them are craft-grade quality which I use to make art pieces. Painting is a hobby of mine so I like to mix both. Maybe when I'm good enough I can sell them too? Haha.

Now a lot of people think that sea glass is easy to find. Nope, not in this part of the country anyway. Never mind jewelry-grade ones. And it's only going to get rarer and rarer as people start opting for more eco-friendly products.
